ABSTRACT FOR THE CATALINA REPORT ON WOOD AND LAMINATE FLOORING
SUMMARY OF MAJOR FINDINGS
Wood flooring could have been be the only industry sector to experience an increase on dollar and square foot sales in 2025. The sales gain was led by increased demand from the higher end of the consumer market. As a result, wood flooring could have reached its highest share of total U.S. flooring sales in a decade. Engineered wood flooring suppliers benefited from this trend due to their ease of installation and maintenance compared to solid wood flooring. Manufacturers also improved wood flooring’s performance by introducing water-resistant products. At the same time, foreign-based suppliers made some inroads in 2024 and 2025 after declining below 2022 levels. The rebound was led by shipments from Vietnam, Cambodia, Canada, and Indonesia as Chinese producers lost ground. Meanwhile, laminate flooring continues to lose ground due to its heavy dependence on the lower end of the consumer market. This downward trend is expected to continue over the next five years. At the same time, wood flooring is forecast to make additional inroads as declining interest rates will give a boost to the higher-end consumer market and builders.
