ABSTRACT FOR THE CATALINA REPORT ON LUXURY VINYL TILE AND OTHER RESILIENT FLOORING

SUMMARY OF MAJOR FINDINGS

U.S. LVT and other resilient flooring sales increased sharply as residential and commercial floor coverings buyers responded positively to the innovative rigid-core LVT flooring introduced over the past four years.  In 2020, LVT sales are estimated to increase about 20.0% in dollars, and could account for 20.1% of total U.S. floor coverings sales.  This is up from only an 8.1% share in 2016.  LVT has taken share from other hard surface floorings as buyers searched for waterproof flooring materials.  Growth was driven by the introduction of rigid-core technologies such as waterproof expanded polymer core (WPC) and solid polymer core (SPC) floorings.  SPC led gains over the past year as manufacturers sharply increased investments in this technology.  Chinese manufacturers dominate this market since they made aggressive investments in SPC capacity.  Chinese producers technological and capacity advantages resulted in the U.S. Trade Representative excluding tariff on select types of LVT flooring imports from China.  These and other findings were uncovered in this in-depth analysis of the U.S. and global market for LVT and other resilient flooring.

LVT AND OTHER RESILIENT FLOORING SALES TRENDS

Catalina Research has uncovered these trends in our in-depth analysis of the U.S. and global LVT and other resilient flooring market.  U.S. shipments, exports, imports, and price trends are evaluated for luxury vinyl tile (LVT), VCT and other vinyl tile, sheet vinyl products and other flooring materials.  Data is provided on a dollar and unit basis.  Catalina also reviews product innovations and estimated sales of rigid-core versus flexible LVT, and WPC versus SPC products.  Import data analyzes shipments of foreign-sourced products by major country of origin and their share of the U.S. market.  Export data analyzes foreign sales by major country of destination.  Catalina also investigated global demand.

END-USE MARKET PURCHASES AND DISTRIBUTION

The report’s end-use market analysis provides executives with the growing sales opportunities in residential, nonresidential, and transportation equipment markets.  Residential markets are further divided into new construction, residential remodeling, and manufactured housing markets.  Nonresidential markets are segmented into new construction and commercial contract purchasers.  Catalina used these data trends to calculate LVT and other resilient flooring’s share of total residential and nonresidential flooring markets.  Residential and nonresidential sales are further segmented by product type.  Retail sales are provided by channel.

FACTORS AFFECTING DEMAND

End-use market trends are correlated with U.S. housing demand, nonresidential construction spending, mortgage interest rates, and other housing and economic indicators to uncover the factors affecting demand, and provide insights into the direction of domestic demand in 2020 and beyond.

PROFIT MARGINS AND THE COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT

In addition, Catalina Research examined the cost structure and profitability of U.S. resilient flooring plants.  Data trends are compiled for material, labor, and capital inputs.  As part of this analysis, Catalina profiled U.S. manufacturers and marketers, and compiled company LVT and other resilient flooring sales.  Catalina used this information to calculate global and U. S. market shares of the leading competitors.  Catalina tracked leader’s product lines, manufacturing and distribution, capital investments, acquisitions, and new products.  Executives are urged to review the growth- and profit-oriented strategies of leading worldwide LVT and other resilient flooring manufacturers and compare their company’s own performance to the industry averages.

WORLD LVT AND OTHER RESILIENT FLOORING MARKET

The global LVT and other resilient flooring market is investigated as well.  As part of this analysis, plastic flooring exports are tracked.  The report includes Chinese- and Korean- made plastic flooring exports by major country of destination.  Global market shares are calculated for 8 leading manufacturers.
